Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats preferably organic
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce or mashed banana
  • 1/4 cup milk breast milk, formula, or whole milk for babies 12 months and older
  • 1/4 cup pureed fruits such as apple, pear, or peach
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds or ground flaxseeds for added fiber and omega-3s
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a small baking dish (approximately 8x8 inches) with parchment paper or lightly grease it with coconut oil to prevent sticking.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, ground flaxseeds or chia seeds, and ground cinnamon (if using). Stir everything together until evenly mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the applesauce (or mashed banana), pureed fruits, milk, melted coconut oil (or butter), and vanilla extract (if using). Mix well until all the ingredients are smooth and combined.
  • Slowly add the wet ingredients into the dry oat mixture. Stir everything together until you have a thick, dough-like consistency. If the mixture feels too thick, you can add a bit more milk to loosen it up, but it should still be firm enough to hold its shape.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly, ensuring the mixture is evenly distributed across the dish.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bars are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven, so keep an eye on the bars as they bake.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the baking dish before cutting them into small squares or strips, making them the perfect size for your baby’s hands.
  • Once cooled, serve the oatmeal bars as a healthy snack for your baby! These bars are soft and chewy, making them easy for little hands to pick up and enjoy.
